Universities such as De Montfort Univeristy (DMU) have a major responsibility to contribute to society through their public engagement and to bring about positive change for the public good.
At the centre of DMU’s engagement strategy is the award-winning Square Mile programme. Since 2011, Square Mile has encouraged DMU staff and students to find innovative ways to use their skills and expertise to create positive change across the entire city of Leicester.
HEALTH & WELLBEING CITY REGENERATION
Positive outcomes from the Square Mile programme have helped to shape DMUlocal, a ground breaking partnership between Leicester City Council and the university. DMUlocal uses higher education to respond to some of the most critical challenges facing our city, with a focus on three key areas:
- Improving children’s education
- Supporting the wider community
- Boosting the local economy
You can visit the #DMUlocal website here.
Through DMU Square Mile, the university offers a wide range of projects which focus on raising aspirations of local school children, improving the health of the community and transforming spaces across the city centre.Working on our innovative projects provides students with a unique opportunity to put the knowledge they learn on their degree course into practice, and strengthen their CV while honing the skills employers look for.
Our team is always interested in developing new experiences for our students and we welcome contact from any organisation that would like to discuss working together.
